The Resilience Playbook is a leadership framework for museums navigating disruption, transition, and institutional change. Developed by museum leaders Anne W. Ackerson, Gail Anderson, and Dina A. Bailey, the Playbook helps institutions clarify their purpose, strengthen community relevance, and build more resilient leadership practices.

Structured around five resilience goals and twenty practical “plays,” the framework helps leaders examine long-standing assumptions, address structural barriers, and realign institutional strategy with contemporary realities. The goal is not simply to weather disruption, but to guide institutions toward greater clarity, relevance, and public value.

Organizations can engage with The Resilience Playbook in several ways:

  • Introductory Webinar – A free overview of the Playbook framework and its potential applications.

  • Orientation Workshop – A half-day facilitated session to explore the framework and identify priorities for your institution.

  • Advisory Partnership – Ongoing coaching and guidance to support leadership teams as they apply resilience practices over time.

  • Resilience Planning Process – A structured process to develop a resilience framework and institutional plan tailored to your organization.

Each engagement is designed in collaboration with institutional leadership and tailored to the organization’s goals, context, and resources.
